Babich Classics and Winemakers’ Reserve Releases

Josip Babich made his first wine in 1916, establishing a vineyard in West Auckland soon after, and nearly 100 years later, his grandson David continues the family tradition making wine. Of course much has happened on the way, and the Babich history is a fascinating one reflecting the joys and low points of the New Zealand industry. Nowadays, Babich is a stalwart of a glamour business, making wine in Marlborough, as well as in Auckland, and the wines are exported across the globe. The essential principles of offering value and quality apply as strongly as ever, and Babich remains a leader in doing so. Here, I review a selection of the latest ‘Classics’ and ‘Winemakers’ Reserve’ wines, Babich’s strongest at this commercial end of the market.
