Awatere River Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

The Awatere River brand has a special significance for Louis Vavasour. His family have farmed the Awatere since 1887, and his parents planted the first vines in the Dashwood district in 1986. Louis bases his wines on Awatere Valley fruit, of course, but incorporates grapes from other districts as necessary as often the blend can result in a more complete and even wine. Therein lies the debate: does the consumer prefer a more singular, but distinctive character in a wine, or is it preferable to have a wine of balance and harmony? The beauty is that Louis can choose either path as he sees fit! Here, I review the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, with 70% Awatere fruit and 30% Wairau fruit.
