Auburn Central Otago Riesling 2011

14-Dec-2011
Auburn Wines is Riesling fanatic Max Marriott supported by partners David Paterson and Andrew Burge making sub-regional expressions of the noble variety in Central Otago. A trip to the Mosel working vintage work added fire to his passion and it coincides with the release of the 2011 Auburn Rieslings, where wines from four districts – Alexandra, Bannockburn, Bendigo and Lowburn are presented together for the first time. The wines are hands-off crafted, and Marriott stops the fermentation when he sees a natural balance, and the wines from 2011 range from off-dry to medium-sweet. This release is a unique opportunity to investigate the expression of terroir and sub-regionality in Central Otago, with the variety that is unsurpassed in clarity and precision. Although 2011 sees the range of Auburn wines doubled, the quantities made are very small, around 60 cases of each bottled. The quality and Mosel-style of the wines is truly exciting, and those interest in such wines should contact Auburn promptly. www.auburnwines.com
