The ‘Alpine Valley’ and ‘Maui’ brands are part of Royce and Sue McKean’s Tiki Wine and Vineyards portfolio and are made to offer accessibility and value. The wines are made from fruit sourced from the company’s inland Wairau Alpine Valley vineyards in Marlborough and the ‘Waitata’ vineyard in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. Both regions have produced top award winning wines and the quality is found in the company’s secondary brands. Here, I review the new 2013 ‘Alpine Valley’ and ‘Maui’ Pinot Gris wines, made from Waipara fruit. The vineyard and vintage personality in these wines can be related to that of the excellent Tiki ‘Estate’ Waipara Pinot Gris 2013 that I reviewed recently.
