Alpha Domus ‘First Solo’ Chardonnay 2014 and ‘Pilot’ Merlot/Cab 2013

18-Nov-2015
Established in 1990 when the Ham family purchased land in what is now known as the Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District, the aim of Alpha Domus was to produce world class wines in the varietals that Hawke’s Bay had an affinity with. The Bordeaux grapes along with Chardonnay were and remain the mainstays, with the Rhone varieties joining the portfolio soon after. There are three ranges made, the ‘Alpha Domus’ brand being the premium, with the ‘AD’ label as the limited release top tier, and ‘The Pilot’ as the more accessible styles, both in price and drinkability. Here, I review the new 2014 Alpha Domus ‘First Solo’ Chardonnay and 2013 ‘The Pilot’ Merlot/Cabernet. www.alphadomus.co.nz
