Alex and Greylands Ridge 2012 Pinot Noir

15-May-2013
Since the beginnings of the modern period of winemaking in Central Otago in the 1980s, the Alexandra sub-region has had less attention and focus than the other nearby vignobles, but that has changed over the last few years as the number of high quality wines and high profile labels from the district have increased. Part of the development is the Greylands Ridge brand of Patrick and Judy Medlicott who in 2002 established their 4.2 ha vineyard in Letts Gully Road after leaving their professions as an orthopaedic surgeon and school dean respectively. They have embraced Pinot Noir and Alexandra with a passion, hands on in tending the vines. The Medlicotts have Antony Worsch of Alexandra Vintners as their winemaker. Here I review the two new 2012 Pinot Noir releases. www.greylandsridge.co.nz
