Akaroa Winery is the brand of Allan Ransley and Timberly Hughes who operate Takamatua Valley Vineyards on Banks Peninsula, near Christchurch. They took over a 26 ha property which included 2.2 ha of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewurztraminer, the vines established in 1995. The vineyard area has been slowly increased, but an extra 800+ vines planted in 2013 will see double their former production. Allan tends to the viticulture, the vineyard now entering its 16th AsureQuality certified organic vintage, and Timberly makes the wine on-site.
