In its eighth year of running under the auspices of the Canterbury A&P Show, the International Aromatic Wine Competition offers an excellent insight to the progress and quality of our white wines made from Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Viognier, as well as the lesser known and often emerging varieties of Muscat, Verdelho, Arneis and Sauvignon Gris.
The judging panel, chaired by the very capable Terry Copeland scrutinised 377 entries to find 15 gold medal wines, 42 silvers and 152 bronzes over the weekend of 16 and 17 October. The Champion Wine of the Show Trophy went to West Brook Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2010. Following are the gold medal results with other trophy awards noted:
