The trophy winners of the second Spiegelau IWC, judged at the start of September in Blenheim, were announced at the awards dinner last night in Auckland. The Champion Wine of the Show was awarded to the Vidal ‘Reserve Series’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010, which also took the trophy for Champion Shiraz/Syrah. The Champion Wine Producer award was share by Villa Maria , who won 7 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze medals, and Mount Riley who won 3 golds, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals, every wine entered awarded a medal. Mike de Garis of Sydney was chief judge who led panels assessing 1,136 entries. The competition uses style-specific Spiegelau glasses for the judging.
