An indication of the integrity of New Zealand wine can be seen in the list of 50 of the World’s Most Admired Wine Brands of 2012, as published by the globally respected ‘Drinks International; journal. The list has seven from New Zealand, clearly reflecting the quality of the wines, the depth of market penetration and the trustworthy way the majority of producers in the country conduct their business.
60 members of the ‘global wine community’ including Masters of Wine Peter McCombie, Peter Marks, Tuomas Meriluoto, Kym Milne and Lynne Sherriff nominated the wine brands they admired most. Concha y Toro of Chile took the top spot second year running, and the Spanish Torres brand took second place, also second year running. These two were followed by Antinori, Penfolds and Jacob’s Creek filling in the top five places. The leading New Zealand brand was Brancott Estate in at 14th.
