The results of the 2014 Hawke’s Bay A&P Bayleys Wine Awards were announced at an awards dinner last night. The Champion Wine of the Show was the Villa Maria ‘Single Vineyard – Keltern’ Chardonnay 2013. The Reserve Champion Wine of the Show was the Couper’s Shed Syrah 2013, and the Winery of the Year was Ash Ridge Wines.
The show is in its fourteenth year and is the country’s oldest regional wine judging competition. As a regional show, it focusses on the district’s distinctiveness and strengths, and assesses the wines in the context they deserve. This year, the judging was conducted at the end of September, the judges chaired by Rod McDonald, with Young Shi of China, Jane Faulkner of Australia, and locals Rod Easthope and Yvonne Lorkin as senior judges.
