While there are many and varied forms of winery and wine region tours available, Walk Hawke’s Bay may be the first to offer guided vineyard walking tours in New Zealand.
This is the brainchild of Lyn Bevin who is the Executive Officer of Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Association in her daytime job. Lyn, who has had very close ties with the industry, in her EO role for seven years, felt that this was a unique way to see the vineyards of the famous Gimblett Gravels region. Groups between 4-12 people will be escorted through the vineyards with some light wine tasting on the way. Options offered include a walk only, a picnic lunch or a winery lunch walk.
These tours will offer a close-up, back-to-the-source view of wine and an insight into viticulture, site, soils and terroir. No doubt participants will be able to taste in their wine glass what they see and walk through. Lyn is developing three other tours, in the Te Awanga, Havelock North and Bridge Pa sub-regions of Hawke’s Bay.
