The Landing Bay of Islands Ruby Port NV

Fortified Port Style from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 16-Nov-2017

16.5+/20

Moderately deep, orange-brown colour with some depth and light tawny hues on the edge. The nose is soft and deeply concentrated with packed aromas of dark, savoury plum fruit with caramel and toffee elements, nutty oak and suggestions of complexing rancio elements. Sweet to taste and full-bodied, the palate has flavours of savoury dark plums, caramel and toffee, nutty oak and rancio detail. The flavours are up-front, and driven by fine, firm, clean spirit with a touch of fire. The palate carries along a fine-textured phenolic line, with balanced acidity, leading to a light, dry finish of nuts and caramel. This is an up-front port more in the tawny style, with plum, caramel, toffee and nutty flavours with good clean spirit and a light, dry finish. Serve with nuts, dried fruits and blue cheese. This will remain in this stable state for many years. This is a concentrated port wine with plum, caramel and nutty oak flavours more akin to Tawny in style. Syrah fruit from the 2012 vintage fermented with distilled spirit from ‘Kings Liquor’ added to reach 18.0% alc. and 55 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 years in seasoned oak until bottling in March 2018. (500 ml) 16.5+/20 Nov 2017 RRP $49.99
