A barrel selection wine.
Rua 1 clone Chardonnay fruit from 14 y.o. vines, with 5% Viognier, WBP
and fully barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 12.8% alc., the wine aged
11 months in second fill French oak, undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden
hues, light-edged. The bouquet is tightly
bound and elegant with fine, poised and detailed aromas of yellow stonefruits,
nuts and flinty minerals that grow in interest.
Medium-bodied, tightly concentrated and very refined flavours of
stonefruits, nuts, oak and minerals are underlined by real power and
drive. This has startling intensity, revealing
subtle layers of richness and great depth.
The fruit, oak and complex, intricate flavours grow with energy, and are
carried along a very fine textural line with fresh, lacy acidity. This has a very long, lingering finish
featuring citrus, nuts and cream. This
is a classically elegant, but powerful Chardonnay with layers of subtle
complexities. Match with roasted white
meat dishes over the next 4-6 years. 100
cases made. 19.0/20 Aug 2013
