Spade Oak ‘Heart of Gold' Gisborne Gruner Veltliner 2011

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand – Gisborne
Review Date - 21-Feb-2013

16.5+/20

Fruit from the ‘Spade Oak' vineyard indigenous yeast fermented in very old oak to 11.5% alc. and dryness. Brilliant, even straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues. The bouquet is full, open and broad with solidly packed savoury herb, white floral, mineral and nutty aromas. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, bright and lush, up-front flavours of savoury herb and complex, oxidative, nutty notes have richness balanced with fresh acidity and light phenolic textures and a suggestion of bitterness. The wine flows smoothly with harmony and balance, carrying through to a long and lingering, soft and dry finish of herbs, stonefruits and nuts. This is a funky, slightly nutty-herby Gruner Veltliner with some up-front fruit and delicate richness. Serve with antipasto and first courses over the next 2+ years. 16.5+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $24.95
