The first release of Chardonnay under the Spade Oak label. It includes 10% Viognier and was wild yeast fermented to 13.4% alc., then spent 16 months in 20% new French oak equivalence. Bright light golden yellow in colour, this is somewhat reductive on opening, but a complex nutty amalgam with mealy, tropical fruit emerges with breathing. Dry, full-bodied with rich textures, this is rounded and creamy, with complex ripe tropical fruit flavours underlying the nuttiness. It is in a tunnel now, but is sure to emerge with harmony over the next 12-18 months. 17.5+/20 Oct 2010 RRP $34.95
