Mudbrick ‘Shepherds Point’ Waiheke Island Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 18-Dec-2014

18.5-/20

Dark, deep, near saturated black-hued red colour with purple hues on rim. The nose is rich and plush with concentrated, ripe blackberry and black plum fruit aromas with fragrant and harmoniously lifted spice, black pepper and violet floral elements. Some iron-earth nuances emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, soft and lush, juicy fruit flavours of blackberries, plums, pepper and spices are supported by fine-grained, dusty tannins and enriched and enlivened by lively, lacy acidity. The mouthfeel balances succulence with vitality and energy, the wine following an elegant palate line with good tension, leading to a dry, aromatic finish with violet florals, spices and pepper notes. This is a plush, lively, fine-textured and elegant Syrah with fresh, ripe blackberry, plum and spice flavours. Serve with beef, lamb and venison over the next 6-8 years. 100% Syrah from the ‘Mudbrick’ and ‘Shepherds Point’ vineyards, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 15% new French oak. 175 cases made. 18.5-/20 Dec 2014 RRP $45.00
