Morepork Northland Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 27-Oct-2015

17/20

Bright, light straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is fresh with light pear and stonefruit aromas, lifted by subtle white and yellow florals and fermentation esters, revealing rich honeysuckle notes and mineral interest with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, deep flavours of pears, ripe stonefruits and apricot kernels form a soft, but positive core. Subtle floral, honeysuckle and flinty elements unfold to add interest. The palate has soft textures and balanced acidity, and is carried by some underlying alcoholic power. Some phenolic firmness emerges and carries the wine to a strong, lingering finish of savoury stonefruits. This is a well-driven, dry Pinot Gris with ripe stonefruit and pear flavours. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked Barrie clone fruit, WBP and fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 5 g/L RS. 275 cases made. 17.0/20 Oct 2015 RRP $24.00
