Man O’ War Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Merlot from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 17-Feb-2015

17+/20

47% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot, fermented to 14.6% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 25% new oak. Full, dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter edged. The nose is fresh and firmly packed with intense aromas of blackcurrant with leafy and stalky elements and a subtle oak lift adding interest. Medium-full boded, full, up-front and mouthfilling flavours of herb-infused black plums are entwined with blackberries and blackcurrants. The fruit has depth, forming a positive, rounded core and the fruit is supported by plenty of tannin extraction and structure. The wine flows with energy, carrying through to a light, plum and curranty nuanced finish. This is a full and up-front Merlot blend with plum and curranty flavours and a structured palate. Match with barbecued and roasted lamb dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 17.0+/20 Feb 2015 RRP $22.99
