Dunleavy ‘The Strip’ ‘Single Vineyard’ Waiheke Island Cabernet/Merlot 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 04-Mar-2015

17.5/20

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot from ‘The Strip’ vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new French oak. Full, dark, deep, black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a very fresh, elegantly proportioned and tightly bound nose with aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries, cassis and some leafy elements. The fruit is expressed with clarity and intensity, the oaking integrated and subtle. Medium-full bodied, bright, vibrantly fresh, primary fruit flavours of blackcurrants, mint and cassis feature on a fine-grained, firm tannin core and line. Fresh acidity enlivens the mouthfeel and enhances the fruit sweetness, and the focussed fruit carries through to a strong and positive, sustained finish. This is a fresh, lively, blackcurrant-fruited Cabernet/Merlot with a firm texture and line. Serve with roast lamb, beef or venison over the next 5-7 years. 17.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $45.00
