Batch Winery ‘North Block’ Waiheke Island Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 22-Sep-2015

17/20

Brilliant, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter edged. This has a soft and gentle nose, with harmonious and delicately presented aromas of white stonefruits along with subtle nutty, minerally lees elements, white florals and a suggestion of honeysuckle. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features gently rich and luscious white and yellow stonefruit flavours entwined with pears, yellow florals, honeysuckle and mineral detail. The acidity is integral and the mouthfeel smooth and mellow in flow, following a delicate core and line. The wine is stylishly restrained in expression, and the palate leads to a bright, light, refreshing finish with soft floral notes. This is a harmonious, smooth and gently presented off-dry Pinot Gris with subtle fruit flavours and detail. Serve with fine Asian fare over the next 2-3 years. Hand-picked fruit, 55% Lincoln Berry Smith and 45% KWV 7A clone fruit from the ‘Thomas Estate’ vineyard, indigenous yeast cool-fermented to 12.9% alc. and 9.8 g/L RS, the wine aged 8 months on lees with batonnage. 220 dozen made. 17.0/20 Sep 2015 RRP $34.00
