Ashwood Estate Gisborne Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand – Gisborne
Review Date - 18-Nov-2014

17.5+/20

Bright straw-yellow with pale gold hues and a slight blush, lighter edged. This has a soft, but intense and well bound nose with exotic yellow florals and fresh stonefruit aromas, revealing subtle herb and minerally notes with aeration. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, tightly bound and harmoniously entwined flavours of yellow stonefruits, exotic florals and honey are detailed by nutty elements. The palate is smooth and is unctuous, flowing evenly along a very fine textured line. This has good power and drive, with discreet acidity lending freshness, and the wine leads to a gentle finish with florals and honeysuckle. This is an elegant and harmonious off-dry Pinot Gris with a gentle power and richness. Match with poultry, pork and veal over the next 3-4 years. Hand-picked M2 and 457 Entave clone fruit from two vineyards, fermented in 2,500 Litre cuves to 12.94% alc. and 8.4 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 17.5+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $21.00

Hand-picked M2 and 457 Entave clone fruit from two vineyards, fermented in 2,500 Litre cuves to 12.94% alc. and 8.4 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Full, deep, light golden-straw colour with a little orange and blush hue. The nose is full, broad and voluminous with apricot aromas and an array of yellow stonefruits, honeysuckle and lifted florals, all accessible and open. Medium-dry and medium-weighted, soft, even flowing, and up-front flavours of yellow stonefruits, honey and florals reveal savoury, ripe tropical fruit elements. The palate has a good core and linearity with moderately crisp acidity and alcohol power contributing to the drive. The fruit grows in tangy, savoury interest and the flavours lead to a soft-textured, drying finish. This is an accessible, open, medium-dry Pinot Gris with savoury, aromatic yellow fruit flavours. Match with poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. 17.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $TBA
