Ashwood Estate Gisborne Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand – Gisborne
Review Date - 18-Nov-2014

18.5/20

Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, paler on rim. The nose is deeply concentrated with complex aromas of savoury yellow stonefruits melded with honey, revealing toast and minerally nuances. The aromatics show a refreshing herb and steely note lending an underlying vitality and liveliness. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, concentrated flavours of lifted yellow stonefruits are melded with exotic florals and honey. The mouthfeel is very smooth and the fruit flows along a very refined, textural line with fresh acid cut lending brightness and energy. The wine is elegantly proportioned and is carried to a long and sustained finish. This is an elegantly proportioned, vibrantly fruited off-dry Pinot Gris with flavours of yellow stonefruits and honey. Serve with Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked M2 and 457 Entave clone fruit from two vineyards, fermented in 2,500 Litre cuves to 13.33% alc. and 14.5 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 18.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $21.00

Bright straw-yellow colour with light lemon-gold hues, paler on rim. This has a very fresh, tightly bound and elegant nose, slender in presentation with mineral-infused apricot, honey and herbal aromas, revealing some nutty detail in the glass. Medium-dry to taste and medium-bodied, fresh fruit flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, yellow florals and honey, form a harmonious palate with attractive soft textures and fine phenolic line. The mouthfeel is fresh with gentle, bright acidity which enables the fruit richness to feature with a suggestion of unctuousness. The flavours flow to a soft, concentrated finish with good length. This is an elegant, soft-textured, fresh medium-dry Pinot Gris with good richness. Match with pork and rich white meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked M2 and 457 Entave clone fruit from two vineyards, fermented in 2,500 Litre cuves to 13.33% alc. and 14.5 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 18.5/20 Oct 2013 RRP $TBA
