Millton ‘Estate’ Gisborne Chardonnay 2013
Chardonnay from New Zealand – Gisborne
Review Date - 12-Mar-2014

17.5-/20
Bright, light golden syraw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is fresh and intense with aromas of pure
white stonefruits and minerals enhanced by a core of exotic floral and citrus
zest from the Viognier component, the bouquet building in richness and depth in
the glass. Very dry to taste and
medium-bodied, this features a striking and piercing palate profile featuring
exotic floral and pure zesty apricot flavours melded with restrained white and
yellow stonefruit notes. The mouthfeel
is racy and bright with slippery acidity, but the palate grows in richness and
suggestions of unctuousness. Subtle
phenolics are present and guide the flavours to a crisp, dry, textured and
thirst-quenching finish. This is a
dramatic, exotic, Viognier-influenced, dry Chardonnay with raciness and good
palate presence. Match with seafood and
Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. 86% Chardonnay, 10% Viognier and 4% Marsanne
from the ‘Riverpoint’ and ‘Opou’ vineyards, fermented to 13.0% alc. and 5.2 g/L
RS. Certified BioGro organic and Demeter
biodynamic. 17.5-/20 Mar 2014
