Odyssey Gisborne Chardonnay 2013
Chardonnay from New Zealand – Gisborne
Review Date - 12-Jan-2014

16.5+/20
Bright lemon-green hued straw-yellow colour, pale on
rim. The bouquet is fresh and up-front with
light aromas of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits and subtle mineral and
flinty elements, the fruit building with depth.
Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the fruit expression is light and
slender, quite tightly bound, with citrus and minerally flavours. This is fruit-focussed with freshness and positive
acidity providing a firm line. The mouthfeel
is crisp and racy and leads to a steely, minerally finish with grainy dry textures
with citrus and nutty notes. This is a
crisp, clean, fruit-driven Chardonnay with good core and dry palate. Serve with seafood and most white meats over
the next 3 years. Mendoza clone Chardonnay
from the ‘Kawitiri’ vineyard given some skin contact, cool fermented in tank to
14.0% alc. and 2.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 7 months on lees, undergoing partial
MLF and blended with 10% wine from ‘Iliad’ barrels. 16.5+/20
