Dark, deep ruby-red colour, lighter on rim with youthful
purple hues. The nose is firm and
intense with concentrated savoury black and red berry fruits along with a dusty
and earth, resinous note, opening to reveal savoury and sweet vanilla-like
nuances. Medium-full bodied, strong and
up-front flavours of savoury and sweet black and dark red fruit flavours are encased
by grainy tannin textures. An array of
flavours show, with savoury vanilla and sweet earthy prominent, and some
resinous nuances that diminish in the glass. The mouthfeel is robust with significant extract
and grip, and lively, with a good acid line that carries the flavours to a
gutsy, textured and dry finish. This is
a robust and grainy textured Tempranillo with sweet and savoury dark red fruit
flavours and a little resinous detail. Serve with barbecued
or slow-cooked red meats over the next 5-6 years. 90%
Tempranillo and 10% Syrah from the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard, destemmed, given a 5
day cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 7
days on skins post ferment and aged 14 months in oak, 30% new equivalence. 375 dozen made. 17.0+/20
