Ashwood Estate Gisborne Chardonnay 2012
Chardonnay from New Zealand – Gisborne
Review Date - 06-Dec-2013

18+/20
Full, bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated and
packed with fine citrus fruits the unfold layers of complexing mealy, nutty
barrel-work and subtle flinty lees notes, with toasty oak emerging, all
harmoniously interwoven. Medium-bodied,
a softly concentrated core of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits is supported
by a fine, dry, textured line that carries with flavours with a little alcohol
drive. The complex componentry is
subtle, with nuances of mealy, flinty notes, and nutty, toasty oak that gently
opens out on the palate. The mouthfeel
is smooth, fine and dry, carrying through to a long citrus and nutty flavoured
finish enlivened by lacy acidity. This
is an elegant, complex-flavoured Chardonnay with fine, dry textures. Serve with white meat dishes over the next 4+
years. 100% Mendoza clone Chardonnay,
hand-picked with a portion indigenous yeast fermented in French barrels,
one-third new, to 13.1% alc., the wine aged 9 months with 38% MLF and
undergoing batonnage. 18.0+/20 Dec 2013
