Ruby-red
colour with some depth and light purple hues, paler on the rim. The nose is somewhat shy and retrained initially,
with finely packed, taut aromas of blackberry fruit and subtle notes of dark
raspberries and black pepper, unfolding nuances of earth and black
minerals. Medium-bodied, the palate is
restrained in expression, but shows moderately concentrated flavours of savoury
blackberry fruit entwined with piquant spice notes along with black pepper and
earth. The fruit is guided by
fine-grained tannin structure and grip, providing the palate with good presence
and line. The acidity is balanced and
integrated. The wine unfolds layers of
spice and pepper as it flows to a lingering finish. This is a moderately concentrated Syrah,
initially taut and shy, but unfolds savoury black fruits with spice and pepper,
and a grainy textured palate. Match with
lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5+ years. 100% Syrah from the ‘View East’ vineyard,
fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 33% new French oak. 280 dozen made. 17.5-/20
