Dunleavy ‘The Strip’ ‘Single Vineyard’ Waiheke Island Cabernet/Merlot 2014
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

17.5/20
Dark, even, ruby-red colour with black hues, lighter on the
rim. The bouquet is elegantly
concentrated with good depth and intensity of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit
entwined with cassis and dark herb notes, and a suggestion of blackcurrant
leaf. The aromatics are fresh and
vibrant, unveiling a little nutty, dusty, smoky oak. Medium-full bodied, this has a sweet core of
blackcurrant fruit intermixed with notes of blackberries, cassis and dark
herbs. The palate is fine in proportion,
and the fruit underlined by moderate, grainy tannin structure. Fresh acidity provides firm linearity and
energy, and the wine carries to an elegant, slender, but well-flavoured finish
of blackcurrants and dark herbs. This is
an elegantly concentrated Cabernet/Merlot blend with a sweet core of
blackcurrant fruit with cassis and herb notes on a lively, fine-structured
palate. Match with herb-marinated lamb and
beef dishes over the next 6+ years. A
blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from the vineyard bordering the
Waiheke Island airstrip, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in
30% new French oak. 17.5/20 Jul 2017
