SOHO ‘Revolver’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc 2015
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

18+/20
Dark, deep, even ruby-red colour with black-purple
hues. The nose is firm in concentration
with an elegant, intense core of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit aromas with
subtle black plum notes, entwined with an amalgam of herbs and iron-earth
minerals. Medium-bodied, the flavours of
sweetly ripe blackberries and blackcurrants are melded with black plum elements
forming a tightly bound heart. Some herb,
earth and mineral nuance adds flavour detail. The palate is taut with refined, powdery
tannin extraction underlining the sweet fruit.
The acidity is ripe and fine and the palate flows with balance, drive
and linearity, leading to a gentle finish of black fruits and herbs. This is a firm, elegantly concentrated Merlot
blend with blackberry and blackcurrant flavours on a harmoniously constructed,
fine-textured palate. Match with lamb,
beef and venison, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 6-8 years. A blend of 44% Merlot, 27% Malbec. 20%
Cabernet Franc and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon from the company’s ‘Jomara’ vineyard,
Onetangi, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in
26% new French oak. 18.0+/20 Sep 2016
