Tantalus ‘Estate’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2014
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

17+/20
Dark, deep, black-red colour, near impenetrable, lighter on
the edge. The nose id firmly packed with
up-front aromas of dark-red plum and berry fruit, along with savoury currant notes,
some dried herbs and sweet oak vanilla elements. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours of
dark red plums and berryfruit are sweet and entwined with savoury redcurrant
and herb notes. The fruit forms a
moderately concentrated heart with good linearity and drive, and balanced
extraction provides a fine-textured mouthfeel.
As the wine flows, sweet vanilla-like oak notes emerge and are carried
with the fruit to a lingering finish.
This is a moderately concentrated Merlot/Franc blend with sweet red
fruits and savoury herb flavours, lifted by oak vanilla on a balanced palate. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare
over the next 4+ years. A blend of 84%
Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months
in French and American oak barrels, 30% new.
