SOHO ‘Carter’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2015
Chardonnay from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 07-Jul-2016

18.5/20
Bright, very pale straw-yellow colour with green hues, pale
on the rim. The nose is full and broad
with aromas of ripe white and yellow stonefruits harmoniously layered with
nutty and minerally lees elements, unveiling subtle notes of oak toast,
citrussy, mealy and flinty detail. The
nose grows in depth and weight with aeration.
Medium-bodied, the palate is taut and tightly bound with a deep and
rounded core of savoury yellow stonefruit flavours layered by complexing nutty
lees. Integrated, lacy acidity provides
underlying energy and there is some alcoholic power providing drive. Nutty and toasty oak interest unfolds as the
wine carries to a concentrated and sustained finish of substance. This
Chardonnay features a firmly concentrated core of yellow stonefruits and a
complex layering of nutty lees and oak detail.
Match with roasted and grilled white meat dishes. Hand-picked fruit from the SOHO ‘Jomara’
vineyard, Onetangi, fully barrel-fermented to 13.1% alc., the wine aged 10
months -n 28% new French oak barriques, undergoing extensive batonnage and
partial MLF. 18.5/20 Jul 2016
