Mudbrick ‘Reserve’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

18.5/20
Full, very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful
purple hues. The nose is very perfumed
with intense aromas of blackcurrant and black plum fruit intermingling with
redcurrants and minty herbs. The
aromatics are fresh, vibrant and primary, unfolding cassis elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features
sweet, vibrant and succulent flavours of dark-red plums with layers of
blackcurrants and redcurrants harmoniously melded together. The sweet fruit forms a tight, concentrated core
and line with attractive cedary and pencilly oak notes, lending a little
exoticism. The flavours carry to an
elegant, lingering, fine-featured finish.
This is a beautifully elegant, vibrantly fresh Merlot/Cabernet with
sweet blackberry and blackcurrant fruit underlined by fine structure and
pencilly oak. Match with roasted lamb,
beef and venison over the next 7-10 years. A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
and 10% Malbec from the ‘Mudbrick’ and ‘Shepherds Point’ vineyards, indigenous
yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 35% new French
oak. 125 cases made. 18.5/20
