Mudbrick ‘Reserve’ Waiheke Island Syrah 2015
Syrah from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

Very dark, near impenetrable black-hued purple-red
colour. The nose is finely concentrated
with intensely packed aromas of ripe blackberry fruit with an amalgam of
iron-earth minerals, dark herbs and black pepper, unfolding violet floral and
spice notes. Medium-full bodied, rich
and intense, bright and lively fruit flavours of blackberries, black pepper,
liquorice and Asian spices show with aromatic violet florals and ripe
succulence. The fruit is framed by
fine-grained tannin extraction and grip, but the sweetness and vitality of the
fruit prevails to carry the structure to a long and sustained finish of
blackberries and liquorice. This is a
rich, bright and intense, ripe Syrah with grainy tannin structure and excellent
vitality and drive. Match with
slow-cooked game meats, casseroles and semi-hard cheeses over the next 8-9+
years. 100% Syrah from ‘Mudbrick’ and
‘Shepherds Point’, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 8
months in 35% new French oak barrels.
200 cases made. 18.5+/20 Jul 2016
