Mudbrick ‘Reserve’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2015
Chardonnay from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 03-Jul-2016

18.5+/20
Bright, even, green-hued pale-straw-yellow colour, lighter
edged. The nose is elegantly presented
with intense and tightly bound aroma of yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits and
melons, along with subtle creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak notes and hints
of flinty lees. Medium-bodied and finely
proportioned, the palate features tightly concentrated and intense flavours of
sweetly rich citrus and yellow stonefruits enhanced by creamy and nutty oak,
and complexed by lees nuances. The
palate has a fine-grained, textured line with vigour and linearity. The acidity is balanced and provides energy a
the wine carries to a long, lingering, tightly bound finish of nuts, flint and
toast. This is a finely proportioned,
rich and intense Chardonnay with sweet fruit, creamy textures and real
linearity. Match with roast pork dishes
over the next 5 years. Fruit from
‘Shepherds Point’, ‘Hawkes Cres’ and ‘Mudbrick’ sites, WBP to barrel and fully
barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc. and 2.95 g/L RS, the wine
aged 9 months in 36% new French oak barriques with 100% MLF. 280 cases made. 18.5+/20
