Villa Maria ‘Single Vineyard – Ihumatao’ Auckland Verdelho 2013
Verdelho from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 11-Nov-2015

18.5-/20
Bright pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is full and solidly presented with
aromas of savoury yellow stonefruit and tropical fruits along with a subtle
layer of nutty barrel-ferment nuances.
Dry to taste, the mouthfeel is fresh and lively with bright acidity a
feature, enlivening the flavours of citrus fruits and yellow florals. Smoky and nutty oak detail adds complexing
interest, and spice notes emerge. This
has lovely clarity and vitality, with an underlying richness allied to textural
grip. Linear and long. Fruit from 1.5 ha in the ‘Ihumatao’ vineyard,
hand-picked and WBP, 22% indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc. and
4.2 g/L RS, the wine spending 5 months on lees.
Certified BioGro organic.
