‘Tipua’ refers to a ‘shape shifter’ in Maori mythology and is
reserved for the outstanding varietal of an outstanding vintage, bottled as a
limited edition wine. This is 100%
Cabernet Franc, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 20 months in 30% new
French oak. Vey dark, deep, black-hued
red with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on the edge. This has a very youthful, fresh and vibrantly
primary nose of aromatic blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit along with cassis,
fragrant herbs, leaf and subtle oak elements.
The aromatics show excellent intensity and fine concentration. Medium-full bodied, tightly bound, concentrated
and refined flavours of black and red currants and cassis are expressed with
sweetness and richness. The fruit and
mouthfeel show vitality and vibrancy with fresh, lacy acidity supported by very
fine-grained, flowery tannins and structure.
Spice, herb and oak detail unfolds to add layers of interest. The wine flows with energy and drive, leading
to a sweet, well-concentrated, sustained finish with currant and plum
nuances. This is an elegant, intensely
concentrated and refined Cabernet Franc with rich and vibrantly refreshing
currant and cassis flavours. Match with
roast lamb, beef venison and hard cheeses over the next 8-10+ years. 1,300 bottles made. 18.5+/20
