Te Motu Waiheke Island 2006
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

17.5/20
Full, even, garnet-hued ruby-red colour with a little brick
on the rim. The nose is soft and even in
presentation with ethereal aromas of dark red berry fruit harmoniously
integrated with subtle earthy layers, unveiling tar and game elements along
with a curranty and black floral lift.
Medium-bodied and finely proportioned, the flavours of black and dark
red berry fruits are up-front and melded with fresh herb, earth and game-like
nuances. The flavours flow evenly with
moderate depth. The mouthfeel features
grainy tannin extraction with some acid liveliness, lending good energy, and the
wine carries to a long, firm, dry finish with funky game elements. This is an elegant, up-front black-fruited
Bordeaux-blend with grainy textures, a lively mouthfeel and funky notes. Match with casseroles and game meat over the
next 5+ years. A blend of approximately
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.1%
alc., the wine aged as components for 12 months in 25% new French oak, blended
and given another 6 months in barrel.
