Te Motu Waiheke Island 1999
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

17.5/20
Full, even, dark garnet colour with a deep heart and some
bricking on the rim. The bouquet is
soft, smooth and seamless with mature and integrated aromas of dark red berry
and blackcurrant fruits harmoniously melded with dried herbs and savoury
secondary cedary notes and tertiary earth and undergrowth elements. A firm, elegant core is revealed with
aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate is
elegant with soft, savoury red berry fruit aromas along with secondary cedar
and dried herb notes, and tertiary earth and game elements. The fruit forms a moderately deep core and
fine line, with balanced, soft acidity.
Dried herb and earthy flavours unfold and are carried by fine, dry,
grainy tannins that carry the wine to an elegant, slender finish with sweet
cedary elements. This is an elegant
Bordeaux-blend with savoury tertiary flavours, showing the beginnings of dry
textures. Match with casseroles and
slow-cooked game dishes over the next 4 years.
A blend of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet
Franc fermented to 12.6% alc., the wine aged as components for 12 months in 25%
new French oak, blended and given another 6 months in barrel. 17.5/20
