Turanga Creek ‘La Cote’ Auckland Syrah 2013
Syrah from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 06-Oct-2015

17.5/20
Full, dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, youthful in
appearance. This has an elegantly
concentrated and finely expressed nose with aromas of ripe black and dark red
berry fruit lifted by dark red and violet florals and entwined with black
pepper, spice, herb and austere mineral notes.
Medium-bodied, fresh, juicy and succulent flavours of dark red berry
fruits are complexed by layers of lifted florals, black pepper and mineral
elements. The fruit expression is
stylishly restrained. Fine-grained
tannin extraction and structure supports the fruit with soft, integrated
acidity lending good energy. The
mouthfeel is well-balanced, and the sweet fruit leads to a soft-textured finish
with pepper, herbs and spice notes. This
is a fine-textured, gently sweet and balanced Syrah with black fruits and herb
and spice interest. Match with wild
duck, pork and venison over the next 5-6 years.
100% Syrah from the top of the hill at the home Whitford vineyard,
hand-picked, destemmed and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 19 months in
2 y.o. French oak barrels. Certified
BioGro organic. 17.5/20 Oct 2015
