Turanga Creek ‘Notre Terroir’ Auckland Merlot/Malbec 2013
Merlot from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland
Review Date - 06-Oct-2015

17.5/20
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Malbec from the Whitford
vineyard, hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 19 months in 2
y.o. French oak barrels. Certified
BioGro organic. Dark, deep ruby-red
colour with youthful purple-black hues.
The nose is elegantly concentrated with deep aromas of fragrant dark red
berry and plum fruit that unfold layers of earth, spices, herbs, red floral and
peppery notes. With aeration, the dark
plum aromas intensify. Medium-full
bodied and elegantly proportioned, the palate possesses a positive core of
bright, vibrant, aromatic dark red berry and plum fruits. The mouthfeel is brisk and lively from
elevated acidity. The textures ae
slippery and the wine flows with energy and tension, guided by fine-grained,
firm and dry tannins that balance the fruit sweetness. The wine carries to a long, lively and juicy
finish of plums, spices and florals.
This is an elegantly concentrated Merlot blend with vibrant fruit, racy,
elevated acidity and a firm line. Serve
with Mediterranean inspired lamb and beef dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5/20
