Mudbrick ‘Velvet’ Waiheke Island 2014
Blended Red from New Zealand – Northland & Auckland

19/20
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with light purple hues
on the rim. The nose is very full with
soft and ethereal waves of blackcurrants, cassis, herbs and menthol seamlessly
interwoven with aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, liquorice and nutty oak
elements. The aromatics build in depth,
density and layering with time in the glass.
Medium-full bodied, the palate is bright, vibrantly juicy and succulent with
flavours of ripe blackcurrants, cassis, spicy black plums and liquorice all
seamlessly interwoven, integrated and balanced.
The fruit is underlined bet very fine-grained tannin extraction and
structure, and the wines flows along a smooth, velvety line, energised by lacy
acidity. This has great elegance and
beautiful vitality, and the wine carries to a very long and sustained, fully
melded and integrated, complete finish.
This is a beautifully seamless, vibrantly- sweet Cabernet
Sauvignon-based blend with great energy.
Match with roast lamb over the next 8-10 years. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and
Malbec from the ‘Mudbrick’ and ‘Shepherds Point’ vineyards, indigenous yeast
fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 45% new oak. 245 cases made. 19.0/20
