Yalumba 2016 and 2015 Y-Series, 2014 Galway Malbec and 2013 Triangle Shiraz Viognier

03 May,2017
With near 170 years of winemaking history, Yalumba is recognised as one of the great names of wine producers in Australia. Uniquely, especially for their size, they remain family owned and operated, the Hill Smiths with a wonderfully talented and diverse team involved in the growing of fruit, winemaking, marketing and sales. The Yalumba wines are grouped into different ‘collections’ which are targeted to different segments of the market. The ‘Y Series’ wines are fruit focussed, accessible and offer value. Under the ‘Individual’ Collection is the ‘Galway’ Malbec, paying tribute to LTCOL Sir Henry L. Galway, premier of South Australia and good friend of the Hill Smiths. The ‘Triangle Block’ Shiraz/Viognier comes under ‘Samuel’s Garden’ collection which respects and refers to family forebear Samuel Smith’s garden of vines. Here, I review a selection of new wines from these collections. I am particularly pleased with the quality of the reds in the ‘Y Series’ in this release. www.yalumba.com
