Tiki ‘Estate’ Waipara Pinot Noir Rosé 2018

17 August,2018

Tiki Wines and Vineyards is the business of Royce and Sue McKean who began by establishing vineyards in Waipara, North Canterbury. However, most of the wine comes from vineyards they planted in the Upper Wairau Valley. The company has spread its wings somewhat, with bottlings from Central Otago and Hawke’s Bay. Recently, the Waipara wines have increased. Here, I review the new ‘Estate’ Waipara Rosé 2018.

Tiki ‘Estate’ Waipara Pinot Noir Rosé 2018

Rose from New Zealand – Canterbury & Waipara

Bright, light purple hued, pale cerise-pink, lighter on the edge. This has a bright, fresh nose with aromas of cherry fruit with pomegranate notes and red florals, entwined with a subtle layer of herbs and mouthwatering minerals. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has crisp and vibrantly bright fruit flavours of dark cherry fruit, pomegranate and dark-red florals, unfolding subtle, near-bitter herb nuances. The fruit has moderating sweetness, and the palate is enlivened by fresh, zesty acidity. The wine flows along a finely-textured, firm and tight line, leading to a thirst-quenching finish of red cherry fruit. This is a vibrantly fresh, subtly rich dryish rosé with cherry, floral and pomegranate fruit flavours and a mouthwatering finish. Serve as an aperitif and with antipasto over the next 2 years. Waipara Pinot Noir fruit fermented to 13.0% alc. and 9.1 g/L RS. 17.0+/20 Aug 2018 RRP $23.00
