22 August,2017
Spring Creek Estate is the Marlborough brand of James Macdonald, best known as nephew of Jane Hunter and winemaker at Hunter’s Wines. James oversees the complete process of the brand from fruit selection and winemaking, to marketing and sales. The wines are created to offer true Marlborough varietal character and value. Here, I review the new 2017 Spring Creek Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2017. This was a vintage to test the mettle of any winemaker throughout the country! www.springcreekestate.co.nz

Spring Creek Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand – Marlborough

16.5+/20
Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim. The nose is softly fresh and light with aromas of passionfruit and gooseberries along with florals and fresh herbs, unfolding some lifted fermentation esters and chalky mineral suggestions. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is moderately concentrated with bright and juicy flavours of passionfruit and gooseberries, entwined with fresh herbs. The fruit is up-front and gently mouthfilling and flows along a light, dry-textured line with good acid vitality. The palate leads to a sweet, clear finish of passionfruit, gooseberries and herbs. This is a softly fresh, bright and juicy Sauvignon Blanc with passionfruit and gooseberry flavours on a light, dry-textured line. Serve with salads and vegetables, and Mediterranean fare over the next 2 years. Wairau Valley fruit, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. 16.5+/20 Aug 2017 RRP $15.99
