Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ VdT Castilla Garnacha 2016

09 May,2017
The Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ Garnacha is one of the most popular of the Spanish imported wines distributed by Stephen Bennett MW. With world-wide wine contacts, Stephen specialises in offering to the New Zealand wine market wines that deliver great taste and value. From the start, Spanish wine stood out as doing this the best, and his portfolio of imports from this country is thus very strong. Here, I review the new release Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ Garnacha. For availability, contact Stephen at Email: steve@bdwine.co.nz

Rojo ‘Gan Rojo’ VdT Castilla Garnacha 2016

Grenache from Spain

17+/20
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is very fresh, lively and elegantly presented with bright, vibrant, primary fruit aromas of dark raspberries along with notes of plums, boysenberries, and lifted whole berry fermentation esters. Medium-bodied, the palate is juicy and succulent with aromatic primary fruit flavours of dark raspberries, plums, boysenberries and notes of jam, with lifted whole berry fermentation confectionary nuances. The fruit is supported by supple, modest tannin extraction and integrated acidity, which lends accessibility and an easy, smooth flow. The wine carries to a rich, sweet-fruited finish with sustained flavours. This is a juicy, deliciously primary fruited Garnacha with raspberry, plum and boysenberry flavours on a supple, accessible palate. Serve with antipasto, tapas, pasta and barbecued fare over the next 3 years. Made by Bodegas Navarro Lopez; hand-picked Garnacha fruit from 40+ y.o. vines from the Valdepenas and Castilla la Mancha regions, fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. 17.0+/20 May 2017 RRP $15.99
