Domaine Rewa Central Otago Chardonnay 2015

Philippa Foubert, a New Zealander living in France, established Domaine Rewa when she acquired an established vineyard in Lowburn. The vineyard was planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris in 1997. Her ‘Epicurious’ vineyard now measures 5.5 ha and is tended by Grant Roulston and Gary Forde of Vinewise, and was certified BioGro organic in 2015. While a portion of the fruit is sold under contract, Philippa has her own wines, made by Pete Bartle of VinPro. Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are made under Domaine Rewa, and while all of the wines are of a very high standard, arguably the Chardonnay is the best, according to many enthusiasts. Domaine Rewa Central Otago Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand – Otago

Bright, even straw-yellow colour with lemony hues. This has an elegantly concentrated nose with bright and intense aromas of citrus and white stonefruits interwoven with an amalgam of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak notes along with subtle lemon-curd MLF elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate has fresh and lively flavours of citrus and stonefruits entwined with creamy and nutty oak elements and lemon-curd MLF detail. The palate has good depth and intensity, and is enlivened by brisk acidity. The wine flows with good drive and energy along a fine, phenolic-threaded line, leading to a moderately long, elegant and nuanced finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Chardonnay with good intensity of citrus and stonefruit flavours harmoniously melded with creamy and nutty oak. Match with seafood and creamy-sauced white meat dishes over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and fully barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 36% new French oak barriques undergoing batonnage and full MLF.
