Allan Scott ‘Generations’ Sauvignon Blanc 2017

21 November,2018

Winegrowing for 40 years in Marlborough, Allan Scott Family Winemakers is a true pioneer and treasure of the region. The second generation are firmly entrenched in the business with parents Allan and Catherine more in an overseeing role than hands-on, nowadays. However their experience is enormously valued. The ‘Generations Series’ wines are the flagship wines, made from the best estate fruit from low-yielding vines to exacting standards in the winery, and only in limited quantities. They are single vineyard bottlings. The name is a tribute to family succession and the handing over to the next generation. Here, I review the 2018 ‘Generations’ Sauvignon Blanc, made in a sophisticated style with oak influence.

Allan Scott ‘Generations’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand – Marlborough

Deep, golden-yellow colour, lighter on the edge. This has a soft and full aromatic nose with fragrant aromas of yellow stonefruits and nuances of tropical fruits with yellow florals melded with soft herbal elements and a layer of nutty oak with soft lemon-curd MLF elements. A delicately refreshing piquant herbal lift emerges to enhance the freshness. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has gently bright and lively flavours of yellow and green stonefruits along with fresh herbs and yellow florals entwined with a subtle layer of creamy textures and nutty oak. The textural richness is balanced by fresh, crisp acidity, and the wine is taut in concentration with plenty of drive and linearity, leading to a detailed finish of stonefruits, nuts and cream. This is a fragrant and aromatic oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with stonefruit and herb flavours along with a soft layer of creamy and nutty oak with a fresh palate. Match with herb-marinated poultry and pork over the next 3 years. Fruit from mature vines from the ‘Moorland’s’ vineyard, fermented in stainless-steel with indigenous and inoculated yeasts to 13.0% alc., and 0.8 g/L RS, the wine aged 15 months in 20% new French oak, the wine undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 18.5/20 Nov 2018 RRP $26.00
