Alexander ‘Raumati’ Martinborough Pinot Noir Rosé 2018

Michael Finucane and Roz Walker have been making Martinborough wines since 1996. They operate a 5 ha vineyard on Hinakura Road, planted to Pinot Noir, Merlot and recently planted, some Chardonnay, and make their wines on-site at their modern cellar-door and winery complex built in 2014. The Pinot Noirs have taken a leap forward with their own winery, and I have also a step up with the Merlot. Here, I review the new release ‘Raumati’ Pinot Noir Rose 2018. Alexander ‘Raumati’ Martinborough Pinot Noir Rosé 2018

Rose from New Zealand – Wairarapa & Wellington

Bright, very pale candyfloss-pink colour with a little depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is light and refreshing with delicate aromas of cranberries and redcurrants along with cherries and fragrant floral nuances, and mouthwatering mineral elements. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has taut and very delicate flavours of red florals, hints of cranberries and redcurrants with subtle mineral notes. The mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing with lively acidity and the wine flows along a very fine-textured line leading to a subtle, lingering finish of red florals. This is a delicately flavoured dry rosé with fresh cranberry and redcurrant flavours and thirst-quenching minerals on a refreshing palate in the Provence style. Serve as an aperitif, with canapés and antipasto over the next 2 years. Hand-picked clone 5 fruit from the ‘Home’ vineyard, pressed straight to tank with 20% in barrel for initial fermentation, the oaked portion finished in tank to 13.0% alc. and approx. 2 g/L RS. 17.5/20 Oct 2018 RRP $24.00
