Akaroa Winery Cuvee Blanc, Riesling and Chardonnay

04 September,2017
Akaroa Winery is the brand of Takamatua Valley Vineyards on the Banks Peninsula, near Christchurch. Allan Ransley and Timberly Hughes took over the 26 ha property in 2001, which included 2.2 ha of vines established in 1995. The varieties are Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewurztraminer, planted in three blocks. More Pinot Noir has been recently planted bringing the acreage to 2.5 ha of vines. Allan tends to the viticulture and Timberly makes the wines on-site, the 5 tonnes of fruit yielding 400-500 cases of wine. The vineyard is certified AgriQuality organic. Here, I review a selection of recent vintage white wines. www.takamatuavalley.co.nz
